If you’ve ever been the friend with a growing collection of crystals on the windowsill, a tarot deck in your bag, and a standing “yes, I can recommend a good moon water ritual” policy, then this one is for you. As everyone’s resident witchy friend, I have been counting down the days until Disney’s brand-new animated adventure, Hexed, finally hits the big screen, and I can’t wait!

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Another witch movie? Haven’t we seen it all?” But stick with me, because Hexed is promising spellbinding visuals, a story with real heart, and just the right amount of mischief to make even the biggest skeptic say, “Okay, I might need a cauldron.”

Let’s start with the basics. Hexed follows an awkward teen and her Type-A mother as they discover that her peculiarities might actually be magical powers, which transform their lives and reveal a hidden magical realm. Disney describes it as a coming-of-age saga with a magical twist, and the teen in question is Billie, an impulsive and unconventional teenage witch.

The voice cast has me doing a little happy dance, too. Hailee Steinfeld stars as Billie, with Rashida Jones voicing her mother, Alice. That mother-daughter dynamic is where the heart of this story lives, and I’m so excited to see how it plays out. Then, at D23, Disney announced that Walton Goggins and Jodie Foster are joining the voice cast, with Foster in her first Disney animated film. Cauldron-sized casting, if you ask me! Seriously, this cast is stacked:

• Jodie Foster as Queen Celeste, the villainous queen of the witches
• Walton Goggins as Beef Roger Crummchuk, a three-eyed green cat
• Tracey Ullman as Ms. Quill, an enchanted feather quill pen
• Stephen Fry as Elias Quire, a magical journal
• Henry Winkler as Nigel, a skittish, all-knowing potoo bird
• Dan Stevens as Hieronymous, Queen Celeste’s blustering and self-important Grand Councillor of the Throne
• Brett Gelman as Billie’s principal
• Samson Kayo as a Hexe officer
• Jimmy O. Yang
• Ron Funches
• Drew McIntyre
• Cheri Oteri
• Kathy Najimy
• Wayne Knight as a microwave that Beef Roger owns that Billie accidentally brings to life
• Alan Tudyk
• Randall Park as a magic teacher
• Bill Farmer
• Pat McAfee as Rat McAfee
• Chris Parnell
• Sarah-Nicole Robles
• Rachel Dratch
• Ariana Madix
• Kellie Gerardi
• Yvette Nicole Brown
• Abraham Benrubi
• Josh Dallas

In an era of sequels and franchise entries, I love seeing an original idea on the big screen. Disney Animation has had success with Thanksgiving releases, and last year’s Zootopia 2 was a huge worldwide hit, so Hexed has big shoes (or pointy hats) to fill. The film is directed by Fawn Veerasunthorn and Jason Hand, co-directed by Josie Trinidad and produced by Roy Conli. I can’t wait to see what this team conjures up.

Mark your calendars! Hexed arrives in theaters during Thanksgiving week, November 25th, 2026, which is only a few weeks away. If you’re in the UK, it opens on November 27th, and it will come to Disney+ sometime after its theatrical run. I’ll be there on opening day, in my best witchy outfit, snacks smuggled in a very large bag. (You didn’t hear that from me.)

Whether you’re a lifelong witch, a curious cat, or just someone looking for a cozy movie to see with family over the holiday, Hexed has me spellbound. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have some moon water to charge and a popcorn bucket to reserve.

We’ll be on the lookout for additional updates on Disney movies and beyond. In the meantime, make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney news and more!
