Volcano Bay Reopening February 27; A Day in the Park with Barney Closed

Universal Orlando has updated the operation status of their attractions this week. Volcano Bay is reopening on February 27, 2021, from its seasonal closure. The water park originally closed on November 2, 2020, for the season for attraction refurbishments and due to lower attendance levels due to COVID-19. At the time they announced the park would reopen on or before March 1, 2021.

Volcano Bay will delay the opening or close the park due to cold weather conditions. This happens when the low temperature drops below 50° F (10° C) or the expected high is in the low 60° F. (15° C). Here are Orlando’s average temperatures for the next few months:

High Low
February 74° F (23° C) 53° F (12° C)
March 79° F (26° C) 58° F (14° C)
April 84° F (29° C) 63° F (17° C)

Universal is expecting demand will exceed the COVID-19 reduced park capacity and the park will close due to capacity at times. We suggest arriving at the park at least 45 minutes prior to the official opening time. Guests staying on-site can use the Early Park Admission program, when available, to enter the park prior to the official opening. For weather closure and capacity, updates refer to Universal Orlando app or call 1-407-817-8317.

Park hours and Early Park Admission information has not been released at this time; updates will be posted on the Universal Orlando website and mobile app.

In sadder news, the resort officially confirmed A Day in the Park with Barney has permanently closed. The children’s show opened as part of Universal Studios Florida’s KidZone in 1995 and then temporarily closed on August 9, 2020, as part of COVID-19 budget reductions. Since then Barney and friends met families outside of the attraction for photographs, but it too has now ended.
