5 BIG Things You Need To Know If You’re Planning a Disney World Trip in 2022

Another week has passed and once again it’s been a week with LOTS of big news.

Cinderella Castle

If you’re planning a trip to Disney World, we got quite a few updates this week that you absolutely NEED to know about.

1. 2022 Bookings for Disney World Are Available

Maybe you had to cancel your 2020 trip to Disney World due to the pandemic or other concerns. And it’s possible that you’ve already decided 2021 is just not going to be your year for a Disney World trip for whatever reason. Maybe you’ve already decided to save up those extra dollars this year and plan the 2022 Disney World trip of your dreams.

Well, this week, bookings for trips to Disney World for 2022 opened up. So, you can officially get planning.

Spaceship Earth

Vacation packages, tickets-only, and room-only bookings  are now available. So, if you’ve had to delay that Disney trip and just need a new vacation date to look forward to, you can already get planning for 2022.

2. Dining Plan Unavailable in 2022 (For Now)

Another important thing to note about 2022 trips is that (at least right now) Disney Dining Plan add-on is not available. The Dining Plan allowed guests to essentially pre-pay for their meals and then use those pre-paid “points” to get food in the parks and hotels.

The dining plan was suspended back in 2020 when the parks reopened after the coronavirus closures and have not yet returned. For now, you won’t be able to add-on a Dining Plan option to your 2022 Disney World vacations either. But, this is subject to change.

3. Ticket Prices in 2022

With 2022 bookings available, we were able to get a better look at the ticket prices for 2022 and see what changes (if any) there are compared to 2021. Have ticket prices increased for 2022? Well, it’s complicated.

Tower of Terror

The short answer is no, the range in terms of the prices, tickets are the same. BUT, you might find that your usual trip is more expensive in 2022 than 2021 for the exact same days. That’s because a number of the days in 2022 have been changed to a higher ticket bracket so to speak. So, while a 1-day 1 park ticket in 2021 for December 24th may have been priced at $139, it is ow priced at $141 in 2022. But, other days have stayed the same or actually gone down in price.

You’ll want to take a look at the calendar for 2022 and see whether the overall price of your usual Disney trip will be a bit different than it has been before.

4. New Hotels to Stay At

There are lots of hotels to stay at when you visit Disney World including Disney hotels, non-Disney hotels on property, off-property hotels, and more. And now there are two more options for you to consider. Homewood Suites by Hilton at the nearby Flamingo Crossings Town Center officially opened to guests on February 18th.

The hotel is just about 15 minutes away from Disney’s Animal Kingdom and not much farther from the other parks.

Additionally, reservations for the Walt Disney World Swan Reserve, a new hotel that forms part of the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort, is also now accepting reservations beginning in September.

So, if you’ve been looking for a new hotel to stay at during your trip this year or any other time in the future, these 2 new options might be something for you to consider.

5. Park Passes Might Be Around for a WHILE

All guests visiting Disney World currently need a park ticket AND valid Park Pass reservation for the parks they want to visit each day of their trip. This week, we saw Park Passes become available for part of January in 2023. Yes, that’s right. Not 2022! All the way to 2023!

This could indicate that Park Passes will be around all the way to 2023. Things are constantly changing at Disney World though, so this could also change in the future. But, if you are planning a trip for late 2022 into early 2023, you can now get your Park Passes.

Park Passes can fill up quite a bit, particularly on busy holidays, so it can be a good idea to get them early. You can always cancel them later and try to get different Park Passes in the future if you change your mind about the parks you want to visit.

And that’s our list of 5 BIG things you need to know about if you’re planning a trip to Disney World in the future.

Wonder what other big Disney news came out this week? Well, just a few days ago we got more details about what parts of Disney California Adventure will be reopened during their new ticketed event. The dates for Marvel and Star Wars Days at Sea on the Disney Cruise Line for 2022 were also announced.

Disney Cruise Line Wonder Ship

Hong Kong Disneyland also announced its reopening date, we saw some SERIOUSLY BIG crowds in Disney World, we got an update on what will happen with Disney Cruise Line transportation once the Magical Express is gone, Disney hopped on a new shoe trend, 2 new experiences were announced for Disney World, AND we shared a look at how the Walt Disney Company is really doing.
