In 2020, the opening of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort was delayed as some major construction was announced for the resort.
As part of this construction the hotel is getting a redesigned entryway, changes are being made to the hotel’s monorail station, AND the hotel rooms are getting a Moana-inspired makeover! We’ve already seen Moana taking over the hotel in some ways. But, today we’ve finally gotten a FIRST LOOK at the new Moana-inspired rooms and they are GORGEOUS!
Today, Disney shared some images of one of the newly reimagined and Moana-inspired guest rooms at the Polynesian and WOW! We can’t wait to see these in person.
As Disney shares, “These reimagined spaces feature a new color palette inspired by the Pacific Ocean and its many islands, including details, patterns and textures from the hit Walt Disney Animation Studios film “Moana.”
If you look closely, you’ll even spot quite a few characters from the story in parts of the room’s design features. As Imagineer Zach Riddley shared via Instagram earlier today, aside from the characters themselves, you might also be able to find things like the heart of Te Fiti in the room’s design elements as well.
These reimagined rooms also feature all-new furnishings and fixtures. Disney shares that for the bathrooms, “Disney Imagineers took inspiration from the sandy ocean floor for the tiles and carved details in the vanity.”
Disney has said that “The colorful patterns found throughout the room bring a whole new energy to the space, evoking undulating ocean waves and tropical flowers.” In the room, it looks like there will be some fantastic artwork inspired by the movie and more touches to give it a colorful, but updated feel.
And there’s even a HEI HEI next to the coffee maker!! We have a feeling Hei Hei has enough energy, coffee would probably NOT be too good for him. But it’ll definitely help us on early Disney mornings!
Also, Disney has shared that the next time you pull up to the Grand Ceremonial House, you’ll notice more of the changes coming to the hotel. “The porte cochere is in the midst of a dramatic overhaul that will feature a high-pitched, open-truss roof covered in a thatch style with pops of color.”
And the “Monorail station is receiving new wooden screens with tropical colors, adding to the open and airy vibe befitting of the South Seas.” Not too long ago, we saw the entire monorail station at the Polynesian had already been demolished. For the time being though, guests can still walk to the monorail station at the nearby Transportation and Ticket Center, or they can also take a boat to Magic Kingdom.
As a reminder, Disney Vacation Club rooms are still available at the Polynesian right now, while the hotel’s “traditional” rooms are unavailable due to the construction. Also, dining and shopping spots in the hotel are still open while the construction is going on, but their hours may be modified, so just keep an eye out for that.
We’ve also already seen Moana touches in other parts of the hotel, like in the costumes of some of the Cast Members there.
Disney has also shared, “This exciting progress is part of the overall evolution of our Disney Resort hotels, as we infuse even more Disney touches across our collection – just in time for “The World’s Most Magical Celebration,” beginning October 1st, 2021, in honor of Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary.”
Reservations are now available for Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort for late July 2021.
