Everything You Need to Know About Disney Cruise Line in 2021 (So Far!)

We’ve been missing the cruises just as much as anyone else with the unlimited ice cream on the pool deck and the visits to Castaway Cay.🍦🌴

As a health and safety precaution currently, the Disney Cruise had postponed its re-opening in order to ensure the safety of guests, Cast, and Crew. CDC guidelines have halted cruise travel, listing it as a new level 4 high-risk category. Even if the cruises aren’t currently sailing right now, that doesn’t mean there hasn’t been plenty of news recently!

And, we’re giving you a look at everything you need to know about what’s happening with the Disney Cruise Line this year!

Sailings Have Been Canceled Through April 2021

The Disney Cruise Line has continued to suspend cruises in regards to the CDC guidelines. At this time, sailings are officially canceled through April and the beginning of May. Yet, the website has also fully removed sailings available for booking online through the entire month of May. Most recently, we’ve seen select cruises canceled through August. With how many changes to schedules and bookings we’ve seen so far, it seems highly likely we’ll continue to update this further throughout the year as more is announced.

Guests are able to receive the same refund and cruise credit policy that the Disney Cruise Line has been extended to people with bookings since the cruise line’s closure. If your cruise was affected by the cancelations and you have paid your reservation in full, you will receive the choice of a full refund or a 125% future cruise credit that can be used for a future sailing before September 30th, 2022. The credit will automatically be applied to your account.

If you haven’t paid for your cruise in full, then you will automatically receive a refund of what you’ve paid so far. Guests can reach out to Disney directly or travel professional that you booked your cruise with if you have any questions.

When cruise lines do open to passengers again, the CDC has already stated that they will require guests to wear masks in public places on board, as well as masks on all other public transportation.

Disney Suspends Sailings Longer Than 7 Nights

According to the language of the Disney Cruise Line, “based on the conditional sail order provided by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Disney Cruise Line must cancel sailings longer than 7 nights.” Currently, there is no certainty about when cruises will start again exactly. Disney Cruise Line hasn’t revealed when departures will start again this year, if at all.

When they do, it could be a possibility that all the departures are kept 7 nights and under as a health and safety precaution, depending on the guidelines from the CDC.

Canadian Cruises Have Been Canceled Through 2022

Canada’s current temporary measures and regulations about pleasure crafts and a ban on cruise ships were set to expire on February 28th, 2021. However, Transport Canada shared that Canada’s Minister of Transport has announced 2 new interim orders that will prohibit pleasure crafts in Canadian Arctic waters, as well as prohibit many cruise vessels in ALL Canadian waters until February 22nd, 2022.

The extended prohibition on cruise vessels applies to those carrying 100 or more people in Canadian waters. There isn’t a national ban on cruise ships that carry 100 or fewer people, but they must also follow the provincial, territorial, local, and regional protocols and regulations. Yet, the Minister of Transport can rescind these Interim Orders if the COVID-19 pandemic sufficiently improves.

A few of Disney Cruise Line departures were meant to depart from Vancouver, Canada to places like Seattle, Alaska, and the Pacific Coast. However, they are listed as unavailable online.

Of course, we will continue to check back with Canada’s regulations and how they will impact the Disney Cruise Line.

The Disney Wish was originally going to start sailing in January 2022, but the construction has been delayed with its new sail date listed for summer 2022 instead. The ship will have Rapunzel and Pascal featured on the side with a Cinderella Statue featured in the Grand Hall, which is “inspired by the beauty of a fairytale castle.”
