FASTPASS, Extra Magic Hours, and More Will Be SUSPENDED When Disneyland Reopens

Disneyland Resort is currently aiming to reopen its theme parks in late April, at which point its parks will have already been closed for a FULL year.

What will be available when Disneyland’s theme parks reopen? Will there be FASTPASS or Disney MaxPass? Well, a lot of details still haven’t been shared, but we do have information now about some of the things that Disneyland fans WON’T have available to them when the parks reopen.

The Disneyland website gives some detail about the enhanced health and safety measures at Disneyland Resort, including physical distancing, temperature checks, and enhanced cleaning. These are things that we’ve generally seen already in Downtown Disney and Buena Vista Street.

In addition to these things, the Disneyland website indicates that a Park Reservations system will be used to manage attendance numbers. This is something that had been announced previously when Disneyland initially announced it would be reopening back in 2020. We even saw signs about reservations being required which were put up last year.

The Disneyland website specifies that ALL guests will be required to get a reservation for theme park entry. We imagine the system will be similar to Disney World’s Park Pass reservations system, but more details from Disneyland are still forthcoming.

The Disneyland website also now has information about FASTPASS and more. Specifically, it notes that, due to COVID-19 and its impact on operations, FASTPASS and Disney MaxPax services are suspended and are not available for purchase or use. It does indicate, however, that Disney will share future updates at a later date.

Disney has also indicated that its Magic Morning and Extra Magic Hour offerings will be suspended upon the reopening of its hotels and theme parks. Any updates about these offerings will be shared later.

Additionally, select attractions and certain experiences that “draw large group gatherings” will not be available now, and will return at a later date. These include things like parades and nighttime spectaculars.

Also, character meet-and-greets will be temporarily unavailable. But, Disneyland’s website indicates that characters will be in the parks in new ways to entertain guests. We expect this could be in the form of distanced character interactions, like what we’ve seen in Disney World. The suspension of some of this entertainment is something we had already previously seen announced last year with Disneyland’s previous reopening proposal.

There will also be capacity measures in place, and limitations on parking and operating hours. Check out the image below from Disneyland’s website for full details.

Many of these are similar to what we’ve seen in Disney World. In Disney World, FastPass+ is currently suspended, as are parades, fireworks, and character meet-and-greets. Extra Magic Hours have also been unavailable in Disney World, although Early Theme Park Entry has been announced as part of Disney World’s 50th Anniversary.

We’ll be interested to see what Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park truly look like when they reopen. We’ll be on the lookout for more information and let you know what we find!
