I’m continuing to learn more about Disney World’s new MagicMobile product, a means of adding your Disney World park ticket to your iPhone or Apple Watch. MagicMobile is advertised as being a substitute for a plastic park admission ticket or for some features of a MagicBand. Eager to test the boundaries of this, I attempted to use MagicMobile in a situation where I would normally use my plastic Annual Pass card: parking at the Walt Disney World theme parks.

I drove up to the gate of Disney’s Hollywood Studios and asked the parking attendant if I could use the MagicMobile card in my phone’s wallet to gain access to the parking lot. She said, “You sure can!” and showed me how to do it.

First, open your Apple Wallet and select the Disney MagicMobile card.

After you’ve tapped on the card to open it, then tap on the circle with three dots, located at the top right corner of your screen.

This brings you to a screen with a QR code. The parking attendant can scan the QR code to allow you into the lot.

I have since also used this method to park at Animal Kingdom, with no problem whatsoever.

To save a few seconds of time, you can get the QR page ready before you pull up to parking gate. The cast member just needs the code, she doesn’t need to watch you open the wallet or tap on three dots.

A BIG CAVEAT: I have an annual pass and am staying at a WDW resort hotel, both of which allow me free theme park parking. If you’re an off-site guest without an Annual Pass, you’ll have to pay for parking, MagicMobile will not work for you in this situation. You’ll still need to use a credit/debit card to pay.

The more I learn about MagicMobile, the more I’m understanding that it is designed to alleviate the “I forgot my admission card/MagicBand” problem. On several occasions, a member of my party has left his or her park admission card or MagicBand back in the room, leading to momentary panic and an inevitably long wait at Guest Relations to get things sorted out.

The forgotten card/band happens because using those items is a vacation anomaly, not part of your usual routine. But these days it’s rare for an adult to leave any location without his or her phone. And as long as you have your phone, you can get into the parking lot and the theme park if you’ve installed MagicMobile.
