The Reason You’ll Want To Buy Your On-Ride Disney World Photos

Things change a lot in Disney World, especially when it comes to technology and how it’s used in the parks.

Tomorrowland!

Today when making our way around Magic Kingdom, we noticed a new change to on-ride photos!

While we already saw one small change to ride photos with the latest rollout of the new MagicMobile app — which will essentially be able to act as your MagicBand and download your photos automatically — we weren’t expecting to see this when hopping off of Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin this morning.

There’s something different here 🧐

It looks like Disney has started watermarking their ride photos!

An up-close look at the new watermark

While you used to be able to see the full picture up on the screens, there is now a “Disney PhotoPass” watermark over each image, presumably to deter guests from snapping a pic of the screen in lieu of purchasing the photo. Now, in order to get your photos without the watermark, you’ll have to purchase them.

It’s in each photo!

Disney watermarking photos isn’t anything new — if you have the My Disney Experience app, your photos would show up the same way in your PhotoPass gallery before you choose to download them. However, this is the first time we have seen the watermarks show up after the rides themselves!

We’ll be keeping an eye out to see if any other rides around Magic Kingdom, or any other parks, begin to use the watermark feature. In the meantime, keep following along on DFB for all the latest updates!
