7 Changes We Saw at Walt Disney World This Week

Our in-parks team is in Walt Disney World theme parks every day recording wait times, trying food, soaking in the atmosphere, and looking for any changes that might impact your vacation. Here’s the changes that stood out to us this week.

Mira, Royal Detective

We were so excited to see Mira, Royal Detective, joining the Disney Junior character cavalcade this week at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Hailing from the kingdom of Jaipur, Mira travels around to help solve problems with her trusty mongoose sidekicks Mikku and Chikku.

Halcyon Model

As a special surprise for May the 4th, over at Walt Disney Presents at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, a model of the Halcyon (aka the Galactic Starcruiser hotel) is now on display.

New Wishables

Also on May the 4th, a new series of Star Wars Wishables was released throughout Walt Disney World.

Reopening of Merchandise Shops

Two shops reopened at Walt Disney World this week — the outside shopping area at EPCOT’s China pavilion and the Beverly Sunset Boutique/Reel Vogue shops at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Gelateria Toscana Opened

Over at EPCOT, Gelateria Toscana opened, featuring a variety of amazingly tasty treats to help you keep your cool this summer. You can see our review here.

Facial Recognition Test Gone

Disney has removed the facial recognition test that was being used at an entrance tapstyle at Magic Kingdom. No word yet if they will be implementing changes and bringing it back on a larger scale in the future.

Menu Boards Replaced at Friar’s Nook

Along with the move to mobile ordering, Friar’s Nook also received an upgrade with new in-person menu boards this week. We noticed that there are Disney Dining Plan icons the new board, however it’s too early to speculate when the Disney Dining Plan will return.
