We’re back with another construction update from Walt Disney World!
Things have been BUSY around the Disney Parks and Resorts, to say the least! Between new paint jobs, more testing for new shows, and reopening stores, there has been a lot to keep track of! And, you may not believe the kinds of projects that Disney is willing to throw up some construction walls for. So, we’ve got a lot to cover — let’s get to it!
Magic Kingdom
Cool Ship
Disney has been preparing for the Walt Disney World 50th Anniversary celebrations in all four parks, but Magic Kingdom has been home to A LOT of projects. We’ve been watching as they continue to make progress on the refreshment kiosk, Cool Ship, for a little over a month now and it seems that we may be back to snacking on Mickey Pretzels under the cooling mist here soon!
All the construction walls have been taken down and guests can now get a break from the mid-day sun and find some shade here, though it hasn’t completely reopened just yet.
Casey Jr. Splash ‘N’ Soak
Over in New Fantasyland, Disney has been doing some repainting the Casey Jr. Splash ‘N’ Soak area. We noticed this week that the train’s face was uncovered and more areas were taped off for more painting.
So, there’s still some more work to be done before this area will reopen for guests.
EPCOT
Harmonious
EPCOT has also been home to a host of construction projects, and one of those is the new nighttime spectacular coming to the park — Harmonious. When we were making our way around World Showcase, we noticed that there are new white tents surrounding the areas where work is being done for the show. It’s unclear what they’re for, but, hey, it’s progress!
We’ve also seen Disney do some testing on the large screens that will be used during the nighttime show, and we found that one of the screens was being tested this week and had turned pink.
And, there was even MORE to check out later in the week — the arms that will eventually spray water were moving up and down on multiple barges in World Showcase Lagoon.
There seems to always be something new to see here!
Here’s What Our Readers Think About the New Barges!
Pin Traders
Another EPCOT project wrapped up this week, so we headed into the reopened Pin Traders to check out what was new, and…we found nothing. WOMP WOMP.
Instead, the change was actually just outside of the shop, as we noticed that the ground in front of Pin Traders is now a pebble pavement instead of the smooth red that was there in the past.
So, yes, Disney did go through all the trouble of blocking off the ENTIRE walkway around Spaceship Earth just to give the pavement a (very) lil update.
Take a Closer Look at the Changes HERE!
Morocco Pavilion
Speaking of the ground, we noticed another change in the Morocco Pavilion on the pavement. It looks like Disney is preparing to redo the ground in front of and under the arches.
This is the second construction project we’ve seen over in the Morocco Pavilion, and it’s nice to see it getting some TLC before the 50th-anniversary celebrations begin.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Na’vi River Journey
Disney’s Animal Kingdom is also undergoing some updates. We recently saw work being done near the Na’vi River Journey exit and there were some barriers surrounding one of the displays.
And, when we went to check out what was being done, we noticed that bioluminescent paint on the ground was receiving some touch-ups and a few extra details.
Disney Resorts
Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
Over in Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, they’ve blocked off an area in the back near Pineapple Lanai and Capt. Cook’s to remove a giant tree that once was there.
And, around the front, construction continues on the monorail platform and room refurbishments.
The hotel is scheduled to reopen to all guests on July 19th, so we’ll be keeping a close eye on any more progress.
Disney’s Contemporary Resort
We also checked in on the construction over in Disney’s Contemporary Resort and found that it looks just the same as when they first closed off half of the rooms for refurbishment.
So, what was already considered a pretty loud resort has only become louder with all that construction noise.
Disney’s BoardWalk Inn
Bellu Vue Lounge at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn hasn’t reopened since Disney World welcomed guests back to the parks last summer, and it looks like they’re taking it as an opportunity to refinish the floors.
We spotted some workers sanding down the floors and prepping for new stain this week.
Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa
And, last week we had noticed that some areas around Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa had been blocked off by new barriers for painting, and this week we got a look at the fresh coat! The resort exterior is looking brighter than ever.
And, that’s a wrap on this week’s construction updates in Disney World! Be sure to catch us back here next week with more things you need to know for your next vacation!
