What’s New at Magic Kingdom: A Classic Ride Is CLOSED and a Play Area Reopens

Welcome back to Magic Kingdom!

Magic Kingdom

We’re taking a trip around the park to see what’s new in construction, merchandise, and more. Let’s get started!

Magic Kingdom Construction Updates

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is closed this week for a quick refurbishment!

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Is CLOSED!

We noticed signs indicating that the ride was not operating as we approached the area.

You won’t get to ride today!

But the Cast Members made the closure LOTS of fun! There was a box made of tape on the ground, and if guests stepped inside the Cast Members clapped and cheered.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is expected to reopen on June 13th.

Magic Kingdom Merchandise Updates

The popcorn carts around the park are now advertising the Dumbo Refillable Popcorn Bucket!

The bucket will cost ya $17, and any refills after are $2 each.

Emporium

It’s a good day to be a Stitch fan! In the Emporium, we spotted a Stitch journal for $19.99

…and a Stitch MagicKeeper!

These little guys have the same technology as your MagicBand, but you can attach them to your bag and pull at ’em using a retractable string. They’re $29.99.

Magic Kingdom Additional Updates

Over in Storybook Circus, the play area in the queue for Dumbo the Flying Elephant has reopened.

The Dumbo Play Area has reopened!

Guests can head on in to play before riding. If the line is long, they’ll be given a pager that will indicate when it’s their turn to hop aboard. You can also go inside to play and then leave without riding!

Let chaos ensue!

This is the first play area to reopen in Disney World — we’ll keep an eye out for any more.

Meanwhile, in Adventureland, the Bazaar was open to guests

The Bazaar Is Open Again!

…and towards the front of the park, tables were set up INSIDE Casey’s Corner! This spot has remained closed since the park’s reopening, and we’re itching for it to welcome guests again.

We see TABLES!

We saw social distancing being further reduced in several areas around the park. At Galactic Gateway in Tomorrowland, there were no longer dots for families to stand on while they greeted Stitch or Buzz Lightyear.

No more markers here…

And nearby, social distancing dots were gone from the entrance to the Carousel of Progress.

…or here!

If you’re stepping in for a show, you’ll also want to note that rows are no longer blocked off inside the theater.

Guests can sit in any row now.

In Liberty Square, social distancing markers for guests boarding the Liberty Belle Riverboat had been reduced to 3 feet.

And lastly, the entrance and exit to Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe have returned to normal. You’ll still need to place a Mobile Order to get inside, but you don’t have to go in through the out door anymore!

No more weird entrance/exit situation here!

And that wraps up our trip to Magic Kingdom! We’ll be in the parks every day as we continue to bring you the latest news from Disney World, so stay tuned to DFB.
