REVIEW: Is Golden Oak Outpost Still A Great Spot For A Quick Snack at Disney World?

Wow, what a weekend! And we’re not just saying that because it’s 4th of July weekend!

Golden Oak Outpost is open!

Although that’s why it’s been a busy weekend at Disney World — we’ve been tracking down all the special 4th of July treats, including a frosting-heavy cupcake, a Sunshine Mimosa, and a Patriotic Colava. But we’ve also been checking out a few snack spot reopenings, including Dino Diner.

But one snack spot reopened today that we didn’t know originally about — Golden Oak Outpost at Magic Kingdom. And we were there, checking out the food so we could get you this review!

Golden Oak Outpost is a kiosk in Frontierland. Its menu features quick-service options like chicken strips and fries, although sometimes some unique snacks pop up here. This is a typical kiosk location, with ordering and pick-up done via windows. There are tables for seating outside. Mobile Order is not currently available at this location.

Packaged condiments are available, including Barbecue Sauce and Honey Mustard

…as well as Ketchup, Mustard, and Ranch. Napkins and utensils are also readily available.

But we’re here for some food, so let’s get to it. The menu has gone through some changes from pre-closure, but still features some pretty basic kid-pleasing and picky-eater-pleasing foods.

New Menu

Although the pre-closure menu included Chicken Nuggets, those have now been replaced with Chicken Strips for $9.99. These are served with Fries. We’re a little disappointed about the disappearance of the chicken nuggets (we love the breading more than the chicken!), but the strips are good.

Chicken Strips

This is one of those snacks that would please just about everyone in the family, even picky-eaters. Each strip has a nice crispy crunch on the outside and moist chicken on the inside. This size (you get three strips PLUS fries) is also filling, but also perfect for sharing if you need a snack for a few people to share between meals.

This is a kid-pleaser!

The Chili Cheese Fries for $6.49 are a good bet and another snack that would please just about everyone in the family. Yes, the fries get soggy under all that chili cheese goodness, but that classic chili flavor is there! Here’s a note, though: the chili is beef-based.

The Minute Maid Lemonade and Sweet Tea Slushy really surprised us. Even if you’re not a big fan of sweet tea — it’s often just way TOO sweet in our opinion — this frozen version manages to keep the sweetness toned down without losing any flavor. Also, this is the PERFECT beverage for hot Florida weather and we found it very refreshing! The slushy is $4.99.

Sweet Tea Slushy

Golden Oak Outpost will probably never make any of our “best of” lists, save for a few of the specialty snacks it offers from time to time (Warm Caramel-Stuffed Pretzel anyone?), but it’s a good spot if you find yourself getting peckish in Frontierland and just need a quick, easy, and inexpensive snack. It’s also a great place to get food for kids and picky eaters or others who are just fine eating regular theme park fare. Finally, the food here is generally a good value and priced inexpensively enough that you could make a “cheap” (at least by Disney standards) meal out of the offerings here.
