When Could We See Halloween Decorations in Disney World This Year?!

Spooky season will be happening in Disney World before we know it!

We know, it’s only July, but Disney starts celebrating EARLY. The first night of BOO Bash (which is replacing Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party this year) is August 10th. With that being less than 3 weeks away, and not a pumpkin in sight yet, we’re wondering when we might see Halloween decorations start showing up in Magic Kingdom.

In years past, Halloween decorations were all up by the first Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. However, we usually start to see fall decor trickle in a few days before that. If this year follows suit, we should see some Halloween decor by early AugustLast year, decorations didn’t officially start until September 15th due to there being no separately ticketed Halloween event.

So, could we see those giant Jack-O-Lanterns the first week of August? It’s certainly possible!

The thing that could potentially push that back is the fact that Disney World’s 50th anniversary will kick off in October. Therefore, Disney will be balancing decorations for the anniversary AND for Halloween. And Disney, of course, already has a plan for their decorations!

Halloween in Magic Kingdom

Disney said that Walt Disney Imagineering teamed up with Walt Disney World Resort Holiday Services to create a BLEND of Halloween with the story of Cinderella! We’ll see special pumpkin coach decorations that will be added to the park’s “EARidescence” decor for the 50th. Cinderella and pumpkins just go hand in hand!

So, when could we see these combo decorations? Well, it might be in August, but it could also be closer to October when the anniversary celebrations are set to begin. We’ll either be getting early 50th decorations or late Halloween ones!

As for BOO Bash, the Disney webpage says there will be “special decor, lighting, and music” to set the tone for the After Hours event. The lighting on Cinderella Castle will give it a “spectral glow.”

Besides those details, there are no other confirmed decorations for the Halloween season! We’re assuming the iconic Mickey pumpkin wreaths will be back around Magic Kingdom, but you never know, Disney loooves to surprise us.

In addition to decorations, there’s a lot of other festive things coming for BOO Bash like themed food, characters in costume, spooky cavalcades, and trick or treating!

Jack and Sally!

Remember, the After Hours event is shorter than Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and it’s more expensive. Tickets have already sold out for ALL of October, but a handful of dates are still available in August and September.

That’s all we know about when we could start seeing pumpkins and (fake) Fall foliage in Magic Kingdom! We’ll keep you updated if we even see ONE festive wreath in the park, so stay tuned to DFB for news!
