What’s New in Magic Kingdom: 50th Anniversary Decorations, a Haunted Mansion Hat, and More!

Royal greetings from Magic Kingdom!

Time to Visit Magic Kingdom!

Each week (several times a week sometimes) we share a look at all of the new merchandise, construction updates, and other changes that we’ve seen in the parks recently. Today, we’ve got some news for you from Magic Kingdom. As they sing in Disney’s Happily Ever After, 🎶Ready to begin?”🎶

Magic Kingdom Construction Updates

Main Street, U.S.A.

The Main Street, U.S.A. Train Station has been covered for what feels like forever!

It’s good to see you, top of Main Street Train Station!

And while most of the train station is still under construction, we can FINALLY see the Main Street Train Station clock now!

Click here to see the latest updates on the Main Street train station!

It’s the little things that get us excited sometimes, like just one piece of a building finally being uncovered. Speaking of excited…

It looks SO good!!

…seems like Disney World is getting excited and fully prepared for the 50th Anniversary! The 50th Anniversary sign was recently added to the Cinderella Castle so you can now see it in all its glory with those iridescent colors mixed in with the gold details.

Click here to see more photos of the 50th Anniversary sign!

Fantasyland

As we get closer to the 50th Anniversary in Walt Disney World, we’ve noticed lots of sprucing up going on around the parks. While Disney already gave the Beast’s castle a fresh coat of paint over by Be Our Guest Restaurant, it looks like they’re working on the mountain area now too.

We spotted some construction work over by the Be Our Guest restaurant

Ariel’s Grotto also seems to be going through some changes. We noticed that the sign for Ariel’s Grotto was removed! Keep in mind that traditional meet-and-greets, like Ariel’s Grotto, have been suspended for the time being due to COVID-19.

The Ariel’s Grotto sign is missing!

It’s unclear if the sign is just being removed for regular maintenance or if it may signal changes coming to this location, but we’ll be on the lookout for any updates. Keep in mind you can still catch Ariel in the daily character cavalcade.

Storybook Circus

Disney’s Tron rollercoaster is still a work in progress, but recently we did see some construction workers in the area doing some work on the attraction.

Making progress

We can’t wait to ride those Lightcycles and blast through the high-tech universe of TRON

More Work Being Done

Until then, we’ll keep you updated as construction continues.

Tomorrowland

The work being done on the sidewalk in Tomorrowland underneath the land’s sign appears to be almost complete.

The ground is almost complete under the sign!

Seems like Disney is truly working to get the parks all spruced up ahead of the 50th Anniversary.

Magic Kingdom Merchandise Updates

Uptown Jewelers

Over at Uptown Jewelers we spotted the new Dooney and Bourke Sketch Satchel! We’ve seen this pattern before but now you can get it in some new styles.

Mickey balloons, fireworks, the castle, it’s got it all!!

The collection is fun and bright. It definitely puts a smile on our faces! While it looks like the Satchel itself isn’t available, you can check out other Dooney & Bourke items with this same print on shopDisney right now!

Memento Mori

But, if frowning or scowling is more your thing, though, you might like the new Haunted Mansion merchandise we found over in Liberty Square.

We spotted lots of new-to-us merchandise in Memento Mori this week! If you want to channel the mystic power of Madame Leota, check out this new earring set for $19.99.

Earrings

Why not complete the look with a matching gargoyle bat necklace? You can grab this for $24.99!

Spooky!!

There’s even a new Loungefly baseball hat, but it has a secret…

Loungefly Hat

it glows in the dark! Check out those glowing ghosts in action! You can get it at the Memento Mori gift shop for $34.99.

And now…a ghost will follow you home!!

Don’t forget you can also get some clothing to match your new Haunted Mansion ears while shopping around in this spooktacular store.

New merchandise!

And there are all kinds of hidden details to look for in here too.

Star Traders

We spotted a few fun space-themed items over in Tomorrowland, too! It looks like some of the Stitch Crashes Disney merchandise had been removed from Star Traders, but there were other Stitch items around.

Experiment 625

These aren’t new but we did want to give you a glimpse at some of the fun Space Mountain apparel we also spotted here, like this color block windbreaker and a sparkly tank top!

Give me my space!!

For all of our Peoplemover fans, Star Traders also has a Peoplemover trucker hat in the Peoplemover’s signature shade of blue!

We love the Peoplemover!

Again, this isn’t new but we couldn’t help but share!

Tomorrowland Light & Power

You can now count your steps or check your messages in style! There are now quite a few Apple Watch bands available for custom printing in the Space Mountain gift shop.

New Apple Watch bands

If you’re a Marvel fan, there are some watch bands for you to choose from too.

New Apple Watch bands

And for the classic Disney fans, there’s a fun and colorful Donald Duck watch band. We just know that Donald would think it’s #1!

New Apple Watch bands

These next two items didn’t exactly seem very futuristic to us, but they were still cool! You can grab two new American-themed magnets in Tomorrowland Light & Power!

New magnets!

Have you ever worn a bucket hat and thought to yourself, “This hat could really use some mouse ears!”? If so, it’s your lucky day! Tomorrowland Light & Power has not one, but two new Mickey and Minnie bucket hats!

Matching bucket hats? We think yes.

Alright, that’s enough shopping for one day. Now let’s check out some wait times and see how the crowds have been this week.

Other Magic Kingdom Updates

Adventureland

The Jungle Cruise tends to see some pretty high wait times. As you can see here, the wait time was all the way up to 70 minutes during one of our trips.

Jungle Cruise’s Wait Time Today

The Jungle Cruise has been in the news a lot lately! Between the World Premiere of the new movie, the queue updates, and the changes made in the attraction, there’s a lot to catch up on!

During a recent trip, we spotted some new graphics added to the side of a (crashed) plane…

The graphic reads, “The Amazing Hathaway Crowne”

…and more S.E.A. icons are popping up throughout the queue!

SEA Box

We even made some new Skipper friends!

Hello, friends!

Say “hello” to Skippers Monica and Kenzie!

Over at Pirates of the Caribbean, the wait was only 10 minutes for us! Keep in mind that wait times may fluctuate throughout the day.

Yo ho!

Now, let’s mosey on through Frontierland and check out the wait times there!

Frontierland

Splash Mountain is another Magic Kingdom attraction that commands pretty long lines throughout the day. When we went to check it out, the line was up to 45 minutes!

Splash Mountain’s Wait Time Today

On the other hand, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, aka “The wildest ride in the wilderness” was only a short 15-minute wait when we checked it out!

Big Thunder’s Wait Time Today

Again, these wait times can fluctuate. We typically share a round-up of the average wait times for all of the rides in Disney World each week so be on the lookout for that.

Fantasyland

Under the Sea: The Journey of the Little Mermaid was pretty much a walk-on; the wait time was listed at 5 minutes.

Under the sea!

Over in the Hundred Acre Wood, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh was at a 45-minute wait time!

Oh, bother.

If you’re feeling a little braver, The Barnstormer was only a 5-minute wait when we checked it out! Goofy must be flying pretty fast up there!

Barnstormer wait time

This probably won’t come as a surprise, but the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train had a pretty long wait time. It was 80 minutes when we checked.

Heigh-ho! Heigh-ho!

If you want to take a ride on the happiest cruise that ever sailed, “it’s a small world” had a posted 35 minute wait time.

It’s a small world after all!

You may remember that Peter Pan’s Flight has had a temporary banner in place of its sign. Well, this week, the sign is back, and it looks great!

Peter, Wendy, John, Michael, and Tink look as fresh as a daisy!

The sign has returned!

Finally, the classic Dumbo attraction had a short 10-minute wait time!

Time to Fly

Be sure to check those wait times in the My Disney Experience app throughout your day in the park.

Tomorrowland

In Tomorrowland, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin was temporarily closed for a few days, but now it’s back open!

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin is open!

You can head over to Star Command Headquarters and help Buzz defeat the evil Zurg once again!

And that’s all for us from Magic Kingdom! We’ll continue to visit the parks and bring you all the latest updates. Stay tuned for more Disney news!
