Halloween is HERE and Disneyland is joining in on the fall festivities!
Recently, the first night of Oogie Boogie Bash took place at Disney California Adventure Park, and we were there to check out all the tricks and treats! During the party, you’ll find themed snacks, treat trails, the Frightfully Fun Parade, and exciting character sightings. Something returning to the celebration this year is the spooky Villains Grove — and we have a first look at what you can expect on your journey through the frightful forest!
Villains Grove can be found along the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail in the Grizzly Peak area of Disney California Adventure Park. During Oogie Boogie Bash, the forest is transformed with themed decorations, lights, and sounds to fit each villain’s story as you travel through the spooky woods!
There are 8 differently themed areas along the path: Frollo’s Sanctuary, Maleficent’s Will, Queen of Hearts Garden, Scar’s Elephant Graveyard, Dr. Facilier’s Friends on the Other Side, The Wicked Queen’s Lightning Forest, Home of the Wisps, and Dawn.
When you first walk in, it’s really neat because there’s some mist and lighting effects that really set the tone for the rest of your time in this forest. The music is also quite eerie, again making you feel like you’ve stepped into a frightful place.
In Frollo’s Sanctuary, you’ll find trees infused with incense smells. There are also candles and chanting voices to make you feel like you’ve really transported into a spooktacular spot straight out of The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
In Maleficent’s Will you’ll find ravens, thorn-spiked vines, and all kinds of colors around you.
Once you fall down the rabbit hole, you’ll find a number of Alice-inspired projections, decorations, and lighting effects. Out of thin air, you might just start to see the Cheshire Cat begin to appear…
…but as quickly as he appears, he can disappear, so be sure to keep an eye out for him.
Along your path, you’ll also encounter a sign with some rather confusing directions.
And when the lights flash, you’ll find different signs pointing you to the Mad Hatter. We wonder if he’s got a tea party set up.
Also, inside of the Queen of Hearts Garden you’ll find self-painting roses! It’s hard to capture with a photo, but as the projections and light effects move throughout this space, you’ll see those roses change from white to red. Seems someone owes the Queen of Hearts a bit of an explanation.
In Scar’s Elephant Graveyard, the hyena laughter is sure to raise the hairs on the back of your neck!
Dr. Facilier’s Friends on the Other Side have come all the way from New Orleans with their shadowy hands and colorful spells to try and lure you further into the forest. Watch out!
Over at the Wicked Queen’s Lightning Forest you’ll find a storm that flashes from branch to branch, across the trees in the area. There’s also a “Home of the Wisps” area where some winged caretakers will help guide you back to safety.
And finally, you’ll end your trip to the Villains Grove with the “Dawn” section, where flickering lanterns lead the way to the outside world!
The spoke effects and lighting in this area are especially neat and make for some really unique photos.
And that’s our look at everything you can expect inside the Villains Grove at Oogie Boogie Bash! Essentially, this is a walk-through area that’s full of spooky lights, projections, decorations, and music. It’s particularly fun to walk through to get those unique photos along the path.
When we visited, the line for this experience was rather long, at about 40 minutes. So, if this is something on your must-do experience for Oogie Boogie Bash, be sure to set aside enough time for it.
We’ll continue to share more updates with you about Oogie Boogie Bash and all of the Halloweentime things going on in Disneyland. Stay tuned to DFB for more spooky updates.
