The Kusafiri Coffee Shop and Bakery is located in the Africa section of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, near the Kilimanjaro Safaris ride.

The bakery (which was closed until recently) used to serve breakfast pastries and sweet treats, but we heard a while ago that it would have a whole new menu when it reopened. Today, we’re stopping by to try all the new items and find out if this snack spot is a must-visit!

Kusafiri is a quick-service restaurant that just has a stand and delivery window. Once you’ve gotten your food, you can head to the nearby Harmabe Market area to find a table and chow down!

There are three new menu items here: the Spiced Potato Hand Pies, Marinated Chicken Flatbread Sandwich, and the Red Chili Hot Dog.

We tried one of each!

The Spiced Potato Hand Pies were $9.99 for two pies and the sauces. These are Fried Pastries with a mix of Seasonal Vegetables and Potatoes inside, served with Harissa Aioli and a Coriander Chutney.

If you’re not sure what a hand pie is, think empanadas. This was actually our least favorite of the three, maybe because they came with a lot less food than the other two dishes but cost about the same. The pastry itself was very crispy and took up most of the pie — we wished there was a little more filling inside. But if you like potatoes and vegetables, we don’t think you’ll be disappointed! We especially liked both the sauces that came with these.

This is a great option if you just want a snack rather than a meal, and it’s also the only vegetarian option on the menu right now!

If you’re looking for a heartier snack, there’s also the Red Chili Hot Dog, which is a Spiced Hot Dog topped with Cucumber Tomato Salad and Harissa Aioli. It came with a side of seasoned chips as well.

The hot dog itself was actually pretty spicy! The Cucumber Tomato Salad on top calmed it down a little bit, but you can definitely taste the heat in this dog. The creamy Aioli on top has a distinct taste that we thought complimented the rest of the flavors.

There was almost too much going on with all the toppings (which made it pretty difficult to eat, to be honest). But it was tasty and filling, especially with the extra side of chips. All we can say is — this is not your average hot dog. If you buy it for kids thinking it’ll be a pretty basic option, you’ll likely be disappointed. The distinct flavors and extra toppings make it a fun and unique option, but not one that’s good for picky eaters. This was $9.49.

Last but definitely not least was the Marinated Chicken Flatbread Sandwich. In fact, this was probably our favorite of the new items! The flatbread has Marinated Chicken topped with Cucumber Tomato Salad, Tahini Sauce, and Greens. It’s also served with seasoned chips on the side.

This was delicious! The sandwich had very thick pieces of chicken that were covered in a tangy green marinade. It’s topped with LOTS of greens, so we consider this a very healthy option for theme park snacks!

There’s a lot of flavor in this sandwich, and you’ll probably like it best if you’re a fan of tomatoes and Tahini sauce. You get a nice, big portion as well as a side of chips for $10.49.

We enjoyed all the menu items at the reopened Kusafiri, but be aware that they’re not your basic theme park snacks! If you’re traveling with picky eaters or kids, this might not be the best place for you. There aren’t many options, and they’re all a little different from your basic lunch. But if you like to try new things or are looking for some healthier options, this is a great spot!
