Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is one of the most popular rides in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

But, if you want to get on this popular attraction right now, you’ll have to try and score a Boarding Group, which can be one of the most difficult things to do in Disney World. We’ve seen boarding group times change, and parts of the process be updated, but now Disney has made a HUGE announcement about the future of Boarding Groups at this ride.
According to Disney, starting September 23rd, Disney is going to PAUSE the use of virtual queues for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
That’s right folks, starting September 23rd, you’ll be able to ride Rise of the Resistance at Disney’s Hollywood Studios WITHOUT a Boarding Group. Instead of trying to join the virtual queue, guests will be able to use the traditional standby queue.

Disney noted that as they ramp up to the 50th Anniversary and The World’s Most Magical Celebration, they’re “continuing to enhance experiences” thanks to guest feedback, and it appears this is one of the “enhancements” they’ll be making.

Note that Disney has said they will “PAUSE” the use of virtual queues for Rise of the Resistance. Disney shared that virtual queues continue to be helpful, and that guests should continue to check the My Disney Experience app for updates on virtual queues, including the potential return of Boarding Groups to Rise of the Resistance at a later date or from time to time.
So, it sounds like while the virtual queue will be paused on September 23rd, Boarding Groups may return for Rise of the Resistance at a later date, or may pop up from time to time. We’ll keep an eye out for updates on that and let you know what we find.

Keep in mind that Disney has also shared that Rise of the Resistance will be one of the attractions guests will be able to pay for individually to skip the line and use that ride’s Lightning Lane once Individual Attraction Selection becomes available in Disney World.
