Disney World is about to celebrate its 50th anniversary!

We’re about to see a new ride, new character costumes, new fireworks shows, a new cavalcade, and MORE for the celebration! The 4 park icons will also be getting a makeover for the occasion — they will light up each night with special EARidescent projections and lighting. And today, we got a sneak peek at what one of those park icons is going to look like!

EPCOT’s Spaceship Earth is getting new lights that shine across the icon’s reflective panels, which will connect to form a starry night sky. Thanks to Imagineer Zach Riddley, we got a glimpse at what this new lighting looks like!

He says the lighting is, “inspired by past and future, the classic Spaceship Earth color gradients will be rendered richer by our new lighting fixtures, evoking twinkling starlight in an evening sky.” And it sure does look beautiful!

Disney announced previously that Spaceship Earth would be getting programmable exterior lighting to “perfectly encapsulate the park transformation” and this new look is actually permanent! It will stick around long after the 18th month celebration for the anniversary is over.

This new lighting will also extend into the new main entrance fountain and World Celebration area in EPCOT. We can’t wait to see it in person once it makes its debut, so stay tuned to DFB and we’ll keep you updated!
