We’re heading to Disney World’s wildest park today — Animal Kingdom!

Restaurantosaurus is a quick-service spot located in DinoLand U.S.A. Here you can find crowd-pleasing dishes like foot-long hot dogs, chicken nuggets, 1/3 pound cheeseburgers, and Cobb Salad. Most of DinoLand is geared to younger kids, and the quick service food here matches that theme! We stopped by to see if the food was worth a visit, even if you’re an adult.

This quirky spot in Animal Kingdom has a back story, too. A couple of paleontology students decided to turn their base of operations into a restaurant, where you can “dig” into tasty snacks and hearty meals. Think of this spot like a frat house turned restaurant but the students left all their junk inside! While you’re eating there, make sure to look around at some of the decor in the dining room — you just might find some of their equipment and several groan-worthy puns!

In the past, we’ve really enjoyed some of the drinks and treats from this spot, which also has a lounge area where cocktails, mocktails, and bar-style food are served. We’re not after a secret menu item or cocktail this time, though. We’re curious about how Restaurantosaurus’s lunch stacks up against some of the other great food you can get in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Let’s head in and check it out!

Atmosphere

Like we mentioned before, Restaurantosaurus has a paleontology theme with all kinds of quirky decor. Just walking up to the restaurant you’ll spy lawn chairs and other signs of college silliness around!

The ordering area inside is pretty Disney-standard. Mobile Order is the preferred means to order your food online your food here at this time.

There is TONS of dining room space here with tables and chairs and a large bar for condiments and fixin’s. It has kinda summer camp kinda rec roomy vibes in this main room!

There’s also a former gymnasium turned dining room you can choose to sit in.

Off to the side, you can find a little nook to sit in a booth that is actually inside a converted Airstream trailer! (You can see the exterior of the trailer on the side of the outside of the restaurant(osaurus).

Only truly unique restaurants and the ingenuity of paleontology students could come up with this dining atmosphere!

Seriously the Airstream table is probably our fav, for good reason. Even better? There’s a jukebox in here that plays all real music that could fit the dino theme. Hall and Oates’ “Maneater,” anyone?! Maybe “She Blinded Me With Science” is more you jam?

Or if you prefer dining alfresco, you can sit outside on the umbrella-covered tables there.

Or sit under the covered patio near that FAB Airstream.

There’s seriously so much stuff to take in inside though. If you want a chance to really go wild looking at all the fun things Imagineering hid in this space, we highly recommend it!

This place is mega cool. Those zany college kids. What’ll they think of next?!

Meanwhile back at the condiment bar, you’ll find plenty to choose from here! There was honey mustard, regular mustard, ketchup, mayonnaise, Ranch dressing, and more available. The condiments are all self-serve, so you can load up on as much honey mustard as you want and no one will judge you. The space USED to have a robust premium toppings bar with chili, cheese, and other goodies, but, like other toppings bars from before the closure, that has not returned since reopening.

One of our favorite parts of this restaurant is its dedication to sustainability. Like a lot of restaurants in Animal Kingdom, the cutlery and dishes were biodegradable…

…as well as the cups.

There were also compost trash cans available for guests to use. We’re all for doing good by Mother Earth while we enjoy some tasty burgers!

And speaking of some tasty food…let’s move on to the eats!

Eats

At Restaurantosaurus, you’ll find food that’s perfect for kids and picky eaters. It’s classic American food — think hot dogs and burgers. There are some limited-time offerings, including a few specialty offerings just for the 50th Anniversary and a Maleficent cupcake right now.

There are several entrées to choose from including the 50th special Walt’s Chili on a Foot-long Cheese Dog or Walt’s Street Fried Chicken Sandwich…

…there’s also a plant-based option. The side items are limited to french fries, the 50th special Cheese Fries with Walt’s Chili, and a Cuties Mandarin orange. Yes, a single small orange will run you 2 bucks!

The kids’ meals are served in a fun sand pail with a shovel! The Kids’ Disney Check Meals are basically healthier kids’ meals, but there are some other options if you’re not too worried about healthy eating while you’re in Disney World. That said, the “healthy” meal here is an Uncrustable like you could buy back home.

For drinks, you have an assortment of non-alcoholic options including the 50th Anniversary Celebration Milk Shake.

You can still choose from a few alcoholic beverages on the normal menu.

It’s a pretty simple menu with lots of familiar choices! We decided to go with the 1/3 lb Angus Bacon Cheeseburger and the Wildberry Lemonade.

The cheeseburger was served with fries and cost $11.99 for the meal.

You can customize your burger on the app to get it just the way you want it! It doesn’t come with onions or pickles…

…but we added those on and they came in individual containers on the side. That’s been the norm at most locations with popular condiments bars that have yet to return — you can still get some of the items but you’ll need to do it when ordering!

It does come with lettuce, tomato, bacon, and cheese, but you can remove any or all of these on the app.

Other condiments, like sauces, are self-serve, so we went with some Ranch dressing and honey mustard. Side note: honey mustard from the pump is 1000% better than any packet honey mustard. Don’t @ us, it’s just the facts.

This should come as no surprise to any long-time readers but we thought the burger was…fine. It certainly didn’t blow our socks off, and it was a little bit dry if you ate it without any condiments. Once we loaded on the sauces, though, we enjoyed it well enough!

There’s nothing super exciting about it as a burger — it’s basically the same as ones you can get at other quick-service spots in Disney World, like Cosmic Ray’s in Magic Kingdom or Backlot Express in Hollywood Studios. It’s what we consider your standard Disney fast-food burger. It’s not winning any awards for artisan blends of meat and toppings, the patty will probably be overcooked and somewhat dry, but it’ll satisfy you when you need it. 

If you’re a picky eater, though, this might be the best choice for you in Animal Kingdom! You’ll get exactly what you expect — a pretty good burger. Animal Kingdom has, in our opinion, some of the best fast food in the parks. You can find unique bowls and Cheeseburger Pods at Satu’li Canteen, barbecue galore at Flame Tree Barbecue, and even healthier options over at Harambe Market. Aside from Pizzafari which serves (you guessed it!) pizza, this is a reliable, approachable, easy choice for many families. 

As far as burgers go in this park, personally, we’d rather eat the American Kobe Burger at the Yak and Yeti quick service spot or — if you’re a little more adventurous — the Cheeseburger Steamed Pods at Satu’li Canteen in Pandora.

We actually love the french fries here and at most quick-service spots in Disney World. They’re skinny and crispy, just how we like them! IIf you heart the fries from the Golden Arches, you’ll dig these. In general, our food was warm and tasty, but not overwhelmingly impressive.

The Wildberry Lemonade was the dark horse in this meal. We expected it to be kind of sickly sweet, but it surprised us by being delicious and tart!

The lemonade is Wildberry Monin and Minute Maid® Premium Lemonade, and you can get it for $4.99.

The lemonade flavor is the most prominent, but you get a little whisper of the berry flavor as well. This is a great pick if you want something refreshing and just a little unique. That was it for our quick lunch at Restaurantosaurus! So what do you think — is it worth the stop?

Nosh or Not

This is a dino-mite spot for you if you:

• Are vacationing with kids who don’t really want to be adventurous eaters. Or maybe YOU’RE a bit of a picky eater yourself (we won’t judge — you do you, fam).
• Are in the neighborhood and want to try a tasty snack or drink — that Wildberry Lemonade really was a great, refreshing option plus the shakes, cupcakes, and cheese fries here offer lots of great smaller options.
• You or someone in your party are dino-fans! You’ll find lots of fun jokes and details in the decorations at this spot.

Check out another wild restaurant if you:

• Want to try somewhere with more exciting, unique food (we love Satu’li Canteen for food you can’t get anywhere else!).
• Already ate at Cosmic Ray’s or Backlot Express and didn’t love it (the food here is pretty similar to those places).
• Are looking for more plant-based options. There was only one option here, but you can find some better plant-based fare at Yak and Yeti.
• Are looking for someplace a bit more quiet, classy, and a more exotic menu. If that’s your goal, then a sit down meal like Tiffins might be the spot for you.

Overall

We had a good time at Restaurantosaurus, and we were full when we left, so there are two good points in its favor! However, we probably wouldn’t recommend this as a GREAT Disney World restaurant, just because the menu and food are pretty basic. If you’re hoping to spend your money on some better, more unique food in Disney’s wildest kingdom, this is definitely a spot that you can skip without feeling like you’re missing out. Other Animal Kingdom spots — like Satu’li Canteen, Nomad Lounge, and Yak and Yeti — have a lot more options of food that you probably won’t see on a regular basis back home.

Our honest opinion is that this is a very “eh” restaurant with pretty “oooh!” theming and details to check out. If you’re looking to cool off with a bite to eat and take is some seriously killer theming, swing on by. But we understand that sometimes you just need that regular plain Jane cheeseburger and fries! So it’s a good place to know about, but maybe one that we’ll save a visit for when they have a special event menu item!
