Disney+ sure has made a big splash since launching in 2019!
The platform has released original shows like WandaVision and The Mandalorian that have been nominated for Emmys, fan favorites like Loki that broke streaming records, and blockbuster movies like Black Widow and Jungle Cruise on the platform. The new content just keeps on coming, and it seems to be a major contributing factor to the number of people subscribed to Disney+, which is continuing to majorly grow!
Disney+ is set to have more subscribers than Netflix by the year 2025, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
THR says that research firm Digital TV Research shared the prediction in a report, saying that the number of Disney+ subscribers would reach 284.2 million in 2026, down from a 294 million prediction they made earlier this year.
In 2026, the report estimated that Netflix will have 270.7 million subscribers, down from their previous estimate of 286 million subscribers. They are predicated to add 53 million customers by 2026.
Three platforms will control nearly half the world’s SVOD (subscription video on demand) subscriptions by 2026 with Disney+ leading, according to Digital TV Research via The Hollywood Reporter. Disney+ will add 140 million subscribers between 2021 and 2026, and about 121 million of the total number of Disney+ subscribers will be from 13 Asian counties under the Hotstar brand.
Amazon Prime is estimated to hit 243.4 million users and SVOD subscriptions will increase by 491 million to reach 1.64 billion by 2026, according to Digital TV Research. The United States and China will make up 49% of the global total by then, which is a decrease from the 56% they make up in 2021.
