Walt Disney World
Magic Kingdom
- Splash Mountain will be closing for its annual refurbishment on January 10, 2022.
- Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will also close for a brief refurbishment beginning February 14, 2022.
EPCOT
- We’re just weeks away from the start of the 2022 EPCOT International Festival of the Arts, and two new Food Studios are joining the lineup!
- We also learned the full roster of the fifteen Food Studios coming January 14th.
- Entertainment Weekly has removed the reference to audio-animatronics on Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind that was previously included in their interview with Walt Disney Imagineer Wyatt Winter.
Other Walt Disney World News
- Because of issues with the Walt Disney World Monorail, Cast Members distributed complimentary Lightning Lane access, which strangely included currently closed attractions like Fantasmic! and Voyage of the Little Mermaid.
- Later, both the express and resort Magic Kingdom Monorail lines were both shut down due to a track switch malfunction, leaving guests packing the ferryboat dock at the Transportation and Ticket Center.
- Cast Members have begun training on parking lot trams ahead of their return to the Transportation and Ticket Center.
- An Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage caused some technical issues across Walt Disney World. Guests reported problems with MagicBands, mobile ordering, and other systems.
- We later discovered that the outage also left guests unable to enter the theme parks.
- The latest variant of COVID-19, called omicron, has now been detected in Florida.
- A family in Hazlet, New Jersey has recreated the now-defunct “Happily Ever After” nighttime spectacular on their house.
Disneyland Resort
- Disney recounted how Cast Members fixed “it’s a small world” at Disneyland after flooding shut down the ride for nearly a month.
- Disneyland Resort is launching an update to their Disability Access Service (DAS) called DAS Advance. With DAS Advance, guests can register for the service and select experiences ahead of their trip.
Disneyland Paris
- Though no exact reopening date has been announced, “Mickey and the Magician” will return to Walt Disney Studios Park at Disneyland Paris in 2022, according to DLP Report.
New Merchandise
- A new trio of Dooney & Bourke bags at Walt Disney World features a white base with sketch art-style drawings of Mickey Mouse in various theme park costumes.
- Tons of new merchandise arrived at Disneyland Resort this weekend. We found Pixar, Mickey, and Minnie apparel, plus folding fans.
- Several new “Star Wars” items, including youth apparel and a Boba Fett helmet, have arrived at Disneyland Resort this week.
- Jerrod Maruyama will be returning to the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts in 2022 with four new art pieces, including one featuring the Orange Bird.
Entertainment and Media
- The Amazon Web Services outage not only affected Disney Parks but also Disney+. Many users reported issues with the streaming service, receiving technical error pages.

- Former BP executive Geoff Morrell will be replacing Zenia Mucha as the chief communications officer for The Walt Disney Company.
