Disney Genie has launched at Disneyland Resort. This new service is designed to help guests plan their day at the theme parks, offering tips and suggestions about what to do next. For $20, guests can purchase Disney Genie+, which gives them Lightning Lane access at most attractions. Lightning Lane replaces FastPass as a way to skip the stand-by line.
Disney Genie can be set up before visiting Disneyland Resort, but guests cannot purchase Genie+ (or individual Lightning Lane selections) until they have entered a park.
To purchase Disney Genie+, navigate to Disney Genie in the Disneyland App. In addition to Lightning Lane access, Genie+ also includes unlimited PhotoPass downloads from the day and Audio Tales.
Genie+ is $20 (with no added tax) per guest per day.
Here are all of the important details about the purchase.
After making the purchase, you will see both a confirmation page and receive a confirmation email.
Once you have purchased Genie+, you can select the attractions you want Lightning Lane access to. You can only make one selection at a time. We went for Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! first thing.
You can only choose the next available timeframe for Lightning Lane access. Our Mission: BREAKOUT! was valid from 8:05 a.m. to 9:05 a.m. You cannot make a second Lightning Lane selection with Genie+ until you have used the first, the timeframe ends, or 120 minutes have passed (whichever comes first).
So we would not have been able to make another Lightning Lane selection until we rode Mission: BREAKOUT! or until after 9:05 a.m. We made the selection at about 8:00 a.m., so 120 minutes would not pass before the timeframe ended.
We then headed to Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!
The standby wait was only ten minutes.
After making a Lightning Lane selection, you will be able to bring up this barcode page to show to the Cast Members at the Lightning Lane entrance.
After they scan your barcode, you’re good to go!
There are three attractions with Lightning Lane access that are not available through Genie+. You are able to hold one of these individual Lightning Lane selections and a Genie+ Lightning Lane selection at the same time. Our time slots overlapped, which Disney Genie warned us about, but we were able to ride both attractions.
