How Your Ride to Disneyland Will Be DIFFERENT in the Future

Disney has several different programs aimed at environmental sustainability, including massive solar panels in Disney World, the elimination of single-use plastic straws, and biodiesel fuel made from recycled cooking oil that is used on some attractions.

If you’ve ever been to Disney’s Animal Kingdom, you might have noticed the company advocating for several different environmental causes there. Some of the attractions work towards raising awareness (such as the Feathered Friends in Flight show), and you can donate to certain conservation funds with Disney matching your donation. Now, there’s going to be a NEW energy-saving project that’s coming to Disneyland soon.

The Sage Energy Consulting company has announced that they’re working with the Anaheim Transportation Network (ATN) to “reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, save on their electric costs, and intelligently charge their new electric buses.

These buses, which have stops at Disneyland, are charged rather than filled with gasoline. Some of the charging stations for the electric buses are solar-powered, which means the ATN will also save money on electricity and reduce their carbon footprint even more. In case the solar power is not enough at some times, these stations also have “microgrid battery backup systems,” which means that the buses will still be reliably available.

One of the difficulties with solar energy is that it’s not always super reliable (since it depends on the outside environment). Sage Energy Consulting is helping ATN develop a system that is both sustainable and reliable so that guests can use zero-emission public transportation.

The ATN is hoping to have a 100% electric fleet of buses by 2025, which means that you could be riding a solar-powered electric bus on your next trip to Disneyland!
