Expectation vs. Reality: Disney World Churro Edition

The holidays are in full swing in Disney Springs, and that means lots of delicious holiday snacks.

Christmastime in Disney Springs

We’ve already tried the Peppermint Bark Nachos, a Red Velvet Waffle, a Coca-Cola Spiked Eggnog, and more. Today we’re adding another holiday treat to the list, and this time it’s for churro lovers and people who enjoy long, confusing backstories. 😂

Sunshine Churros in Disney Springs serves regular and gourmet churros, with lots of unique flavors like Fruity Pebbles or Rose Gold. Today we visited to try their returning holiday churro offering — the Peppermint Churro, and let us take you on a journey of discovery. Churro discovery, that is.

Sunshine Churros

The Peppermint Churro costs $6.95 and we’ve seen it for the last few years. In 2020 it came with peppermint-flavored powdered sugar, white chocolate drizzle, and crushed peppermint candy.

Now, let’s bring you to the present. This is the display photo for the item this year.

Peppermint Churro Display

The 2021 churro appears to very different when compared to 2020’s version! this year it’s a regular churro coated in powdered sugar and ground up peppermint candies, along with a drizzle of what tasted like vanilla icing. Notice that our churro did NOT look like the display photo. The display photo looked more like the Peppermint Churro we tried last year.

Peppermint Churro!

The Peppermint Churro is served warm, and it’s crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The icing tastes (to us, at least) like royal icing, and the peppermint candies add a nice crunch but a very subtle peppermint flavor.

YUM

We thought it was delicious, but the churro is so warm that the icing melts into it pretty quickly. Also, we wanted more peppermint flavor, though it could be good for people who don’t like TOO much of that peppermint flavor.

So good

If you want to compare it to the 2020 Peppermint Churro, you’ll notice how in 2020 the the peppermint candies were a LOT bigger, and the drizzle was white chocolate.

Peppermint Churro from 2020

We did a little more digging and discovered that the 2019 version of the Peppermint Churro looks a LOT like this year’s! Did Disney World just forget about the 2020 version? Did they feel like the 2019 version was simply better or more popular? A mystery, indeed.

All three versions do have one thing in common — they’re MESSY. You can check out a video of the 2021 Peppermint Churro here!

If you enjoy subtle peppermint, give the 2021 Peppermint Churro a try! Just keep in mind that you WILL end up with powdered sugar alllll over your clothes. Stop by Sunshine Churros in Disney Springs to check it out!
