I’ve been snacking my way through the offerings at the Norway pavilion’s Kringla Bakeri og Kafe over the past year or so, and a recent trip to EPCOT seemed like the perfect time to try the location’s namesake treat: the Chocolate Norwegian Kringla.

The Norwegian Kringla ($6.29) comes in two flavors: chocolate and almond. I asked the cast member staffing the snack and beverage spot which was the most popular, and the answer was what I expected to hear: chocolate. I ordered one and went on my merry way. And by “merry way,” I mean I went out front and then to the rocks dappled in afternoon sun just behind the shop and snapped a few pictures. Gotta get those pics, you know.

Side note: it was while taking a picture of the treat in front of the Kafe that I had an epiphany, and to be honest, I know I should have had it years ago. I was this many years old when I realized that Kringla Bakeri og Kafe is named after the very snack that I was holding in my hand. I know, I know; “They have a picture of the pretzel-shaped snack hanging above the front door for crying out loud, Deni.” Yes, yes they do. Sigh. This is the Kafe’s signature snack, and here I was all along not realizing it. The more you know, right? Please tell me that I wasn’t the only one who hadn’t connected the dots. Please.

While Norwegian Kringla may look like a pretzel, it’s far from it. The treat is actually a baked good whose texture resembles a danish more than a pretzel. The Kringla is delightfully fresh and soft with raisins found inside here and there. If you’re raisin-averse, never fear; the raisins are few, though I have to say that I enjoyed coming across the raisins because they added a pop of sweetness and texture.

Speaking of sweetness, this snack has it in spades. The Kringla is generously covered in white and dark chocolate, which makes it a must-eat for chocolate lovers. I can’t say enough good things about this snack. It’s fresh, delicious, and an overall slam dunk in the EPCOT snack department.
