The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) increased the travel warning for cruise ships to its highest level and is now advising against cruise travel regardless of vaccination status.
The COVID-19 omicron variant is currently surging across the world. The CDC is investigating COVID-19 cases on 86 cruise ships, including the four Disney Cruise Line ships. Guests currently aboard the Disney Fantasy were unable to debark at St. Thomas today.
As the CDC warned, COVID-19 transmits easily on ships given there are so many people in closed quarters together. There is still a high risk of catching and spreading the virus even when vaccinated. They do advise that anyone who does travel by cruise ship be vaccinated and receive a booster dose if eligible.
All eligible Disney Cruise Line guests are required to be fully vaccinated with their first two shots. Ineligible guests (children under the age of five) must provide a negative test within five days of boarding. All guests are tested at Port Canaveral and may not board if they test positive.
