From ride closures to bad weather, transportation problems to looong queues, Disney World vacations definitely don’t always go to plan.

One thing that you can usually count on is dining reservations, which you can make 60 days before your visit and then forget about until it’s time to eat. But today we saw a dining reservation problem that you could encounter during your trip. Here’s what we know so far about this issue.
A DFB reader told us about a problem they encountered with their dining reservation at California Grill, which is a restaurant located inside Disney’s Contemporary Resort.

On the day of their reservation, they were alerted on the My Disney Experience app that their reservation had been canceled and California Grill was unavailable for dining.

California Grill is closed tonight (January 11th) due to “unexpected maintenance issues,” so guests were not able to dine inside.

The guests with existing reservations at California Grill were directed to the walk-up wait list at Steakhouse 71 (located in the Contemporary Resort as well) and also promised a Disney gift card for the inconvenience.

Aside from the mass cancelations that occurred when Disney World closed in 2020, we don’t often see dining reservations fall through. Disney did not specify what “unexpected maintenance issues” means exactly, but they must have been problematic enough to close the restaurant for the evening.
