Epcot’s International Festival of the Arts is my second favorite festival at Epcot. This festival, much like Flower and Garden, is full of color and fun food. Different Disney films and shows inspire a lot of the art seen at the event. When I think of this festival, I think of Disney films with standout color palettes and fantastic animation. The animation these days blows me away. I wanted to share some movies that I feel are very artsy and can be viewed as inspiring for artists, whether the colors in the movie or animation style.
Recently Disney released a new hit, Encanto. This movie is rich in color and music. I strongly feel we will be seeing a lot of Encanto-inspired art at this year’s Festival of the Arts. I watched this movie with my family during Christmas, and even though I wish the storyline was more substantial, I was immediately engulfed by the colors of this movie. I have seen creators all over TikTok and Twitter talking about how beautiful the film is to watch. Seeing how Encanto blew the internet away, I strongly feel that many artists will have art inspired by this movie.
In recent years, we have seen many artists specializing in Star Wars-themed artwork. If you are a Star Wars fan, I would say to catch up on The Mandalorian and keep up with the Book of Boba Fett because I have a feeling we will see a lot of bounty hunter art. Star Wars movies and shows have some of the most breathtaking scenery I have ever seen, and I love when artists make art replicating or interpreting those foreign places. Keep up with all your Grogu facts and rewatch season two of The Mandalorian because I feel like we will see Grogu everywhere.
Now let’s go back in time for a minute here. One of the most colorful and artistic movies ever is Alice in Wonderland. I have never been a massive fan of this movie or any of the remakes, but I love the whimsical and colorful art in this movie. I feel like a lot of the art we see at the Festival of the Arts is whimsical and fun, much like Alice in Wonderland. Those beautiful singing flowers, the vibrant Cheshire cat, and the Queen of Hearts’ castle. Speaking of flowers, I’d like to shine a light on Mulan. I think Mulan is such a visually pleasing movie, and those cherry blossoms are beautiful. I love seeing art inspired by Mulan because there are so many beautiful colors in that film. Between the deep, rich reds to the deep, dark blues.
Star Wars has captivated the world, and so has the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the past years, I have seen many artists bring Marvel artwork to the festival. This means we should probably all catch up on the new Marvel series released on Disney + in the past year. I’m watching Hawkeye while writing this. I think we will be seeing a lot of artwork inspired by these new series, but part of me feels like we will see a lot of Loki artwork. If I see a WandaVision-inspired art piece, I might cave in and buy it. Some of the Marvel artwork I have seen at this festival in the past years has genuinely blown me away.
The artists at Epcot’s International Festival of the Arts are incredibly talented. I have fallen more in love with the festival as each year has passed because of the artwork. Yes, the food is fantastic, but there is nothing like walking around the World Showcase and seeing all the wonderful art pieces. I hope these different movies and shows can help you get excited for the Festival of the Arts.
