REVIEW: Dear EPCOT, Please Don’t Turn Our Donuts Inside Out Anymore

We’re celebrating the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts with awesome entertainment, some exceptionally skilled artwork, and of course, lots of FOOD.

WELCOME to the 2022 EPCOT Festival of the Arts!

We’ve been checking out all of the food studios at this year’s festival, and now we’re heading to stop by one that we’re very familiar with — The Donut Box!

This booth has been home to some delicious sweet treats at festivals past, but it has an all-new menu for the 2022 Festival of the Arts. We bet you’ll never guess what the featured item is! (Yeah, that’s right, it’s donuts.)

Menu

There are three new donuts on the menu, including one that’s part of the Wonderful Walk of Colorful Cuisine. On top of that, we’ve got two beverages — Rosé and the Cold Fashion Coffee Cocktail.

Looks pretty exciting to us, so let’s dive on in and chow down!

Food

To start, we’ll be ordering the Vanilla Donut with strawberry sugar, strawberry ice cream, fresh strawberries, and strawberry gele. This is the one that’s part of the Wonderful Walk of Colorful Cuisine (make sure you order all the items on the list and you can get a prize!) and it’s $5.50.

Here’s a closer look at all of the fixings that come along with the donut!

So what’s the taste like? Is it worth the price? Well, we found the flavors to be pretty nice! This one in particular tasted more like a pound cake than a donut, with a lot of tasty glaze. The fixings were a nice touch and the strawberry ice cream was heavenly!

Vanilla Donut

Next up is the Inside Out Donut, which is a vanilla donut with bavarian cream. Don’t let the average donut appearance fool you — it’s basically inside-out! You can order it for $5.

While we were fans of the Vanilla Donut, we unfortunately cannot say the same for this one. It was VERY sweet, and the frosting had an odd creamy texture that we weren’t expecting. The donut itself was not bad, but we were overwhelmed by the sweetness and the texture from the bizarre creamy coating. We would have preferred if they kept this one “inside-in,” so to speak. If you’re a big donut fan then you may enjoy the unique approach to this dessert, but if you aren’t that into sweets, you may want to pass on this one.

And finally, we’ve got the Chocolate-dipped Donut with black and gold sugar sprinkles and chocolate buttercream. Can we just talk about how pretty this is? This one is definitely Insta-worthy!

But looks aren’t everything — is it worth the $5 price tag? Well, this is the most classic “yeast-y” donut of the bunch, and it was good! Personally, we would prefer the donuts at Joffrey’s, but if you’re big into chocolate, then you’ll want to give this one a try. The chocolate icing was very tasty and rich!

Then it was time to wash everything down with the Cold Fashion Coffee Cocktail for $10.50! If you like Cold Brew and Bourbon, this drink is for you. It’s essentially a Coffee-infused Old Fashioned. We could definitely taste the bourbon, even with ice melted. It wasn’t too sweet at all, with just a whisper of sweetness.

If those flavors aren’t up your alley, you can also try the Moscato Rosé for $5. Now that we’re thoroughly sugared up, let’s discuss the merits of The Donut Box.

Overall

The Donut Box always seems to have something up their sleeve at each EPCOT festival, so we look forward to trying this location out in particular! Today, their selections were okay overall. All three donuts were a treat for the eyes, but as far as taste goes, we actually liked our beverage more than all three donuts! If you’re a big sweets fan, however, this may have to be your first stop when you visit the Festival of the Arts.
