Ironically, everyone has been talking about Bruno lately. That is, we’re talking about Disney’s most recently released animated film, Encanto, and the HUGE impact the soundtrack has made on the music charts.
It’s gotten to the extent that even our mom is texting us “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” puns, and when it’s reached our moms, you KNOW something big is happening. The entire Encanto soundtrack has been topping the Billboard Charts, and “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” just achieved something BIG.
Entertainment Weekly just reported that Encanto‘s “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” has officially reached a Disney milestone and dethroned a major Disney hit on the music charts, passing up a Disney song we were all singing for many, many (too many) years. The catchy “Bruno” song just reached number 4 on this week’s Billboard Hot 100 Chart, surpassing the major Frozen hit, “Let It Go,” which peaked at number 5 in April 2014.
This makes the Encanto earworm the highest-charting song from a Disney animated film in 26 years. Let that sink in. 26 YEARS. Entertainment Weekly attributed 29 million streams and 8,000 downloads to the immense success of “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” on the music charts.
“We Don’t Talk About Bruno” was written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who wrote eight other original songs for Encanto, Disney’s 60th feature film. Miranda also wrote “Surface Pressure,” which is currently at number 14 on the Billboard 100 Chart. You might know Miranda from a little show called Hamilton.
If you’re curious, the other Disney songs that have reached the top five spots on the Billboard Hot 100 charts include Aladdin‘s “A Whole New World” at number 1 in 1993 (the Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle version), Elton John’s “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” from The Lion King at number 4 in 1994, and “Colors of the Wind” (sung by Vanessa Williams) from Pocahontas in 1995, which hit the number 4 spot.
