4 Unexpected Disney World Updates From the Week

It’s generally a good idea to expect the unexpected in Disney World.

EPCOT

Well, we blinked and it turned into February, so we’ve been trying lots of Valentine’s Day treats this week. But — there were also some unexpected happenings in Disney World, so check them out here!

Test Track

Disney World rides close down all the time, mostly for scheduled maintenance or technical difficulties, and Test Track in EPCOT has been closing unexpectedly early this week. On February 2nd and 3rd, guests in EPCOT were informed that Test Track would be closing at 6:30PM.

Closed again!

Cast Members confirmed that the fastest ride in Disney World closed early for maintenance, so make sure you get in line BEFORE 6:30PM if you visit EPCOT on an early closing day!

Ride Testing

Walt Disney World Railroad

The Walt Disney World Railroad has been closed since late 2018, mostly due to the construction of the new Tomorrowland attraction, TRON: Lightcycle Run. We’ve been eagerly waiting for reopening news of the iconic locomotive, and this week we got an unexpected surprise in the form of railroad testing! That’s right, thanks to @DisneyfiedAsh on Twitter, we got to see a video of the Walt Disney World Railroad briefly running.

Walt Disney World Railroad

Railroad testing was announced back in December, but this was the first time we got to see it in action! According to a Cast Member, they saw the train running a few times, and you might be able to catch it running once in awhile as they try to keep the engines running.

Expedition Everest closed in January for an extended period of refurbishment, but this week we saw Expedition Everest testing ride vehicles! According to Disney World’s refurbishment schedule, Expedition Everest should be closed through mid-April 2022.

Ride vehicle testing is a normal part of refurbishments, but doesn’t necessarily mean Expedition Everest will open sooner than scheduled. We’ll be keeping our eyes out for more developments!

Showtimes

Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire

An updated stage show is coming soon to Cinderella Castle, and this week Disney surprised us with showtimes! We already knew that the show would debut on February 25th, but now we know exactly when to catch Mickey’s Magical Friendship Faire on stage.

Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade

The new cavalcade, Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade, is coming to Magic Kingdom on February 11th, and we now have showtimes too! You’ll be able to catch this cavalcade four times daily, running from Frontierland, through Liberty Square, and down Main Street, U.S.A..

Linking Friends and Family in My Disney Experience

The My Disney Experience app is an invaluable tool for Disney World, especially if you plan to make Genie+ Lightning Lane and Individual Attraction Selections, place Mobile Orders, check attraction wait times, and lots more. And if you’re traveling in a group, it’s really important to link your Disney accounts with the other people in your party so that you can coordinate times.

This week, Disney introduced the Linking Code feature, which is a new way to link up with your friends and family! With this feature, you can generate a unique linking code that makes it really easy to connect.
