REVIEW: ONE of These Disney Snacks Is a Home Run. The Other…Not So Much.

You might think that trying to eat at Disney World with dietary restrictions would be super difficult, but there are a TON more options now for all kinds of diets!

Plant-based soft serve in Disney World

There are a lot of items that are gluten free, as well as those that are plant-based, and some vegetarian options. Actually — there’s a whole BOOTH at this year’s EPCOT Flower and Garden Festival that serves plant-based food! But, if you’re looking for some plant-based food that’s not just temporarily in EPCOT, we just tried out 2 dishes over at Sunshine Seasons and are here to give you our honest review!

We started with the Jackfruit Gyro for $9.99. This is jackfruit served with pickled onions, red peppers, fresh cucumbers, and tzatziki sauce on top of a pita. The whole dish is plant-based!

Gyro

Unfortunately, we did NOT like this gyro. It’s all served cold, and the jackfruit definitely needs to be seasoned more and served warm, in our opinion. It also has a bitter, weirdly sour flavor to it that made us not even want to take another bite once we got the aftertaste.

Yikes

The saving grace (kind of) were the veggies on top. The fresh cucumbers and pickled onions added SOME flavor to this, but not enough to make us like it.

The veggies helped a little

The tzatziki on the side seems to be made with coconut oil because it has a very strong coconut flavor to it. And, it was oily, like how the Coconut Lime Dole Whip was when we tried it a few months ago.

This is not going on a list of our favorite plant-based items!

The pita is also cold and stale. Our reporter put it best by describing this whole ordeal as “a haunted house of a pita sandwich.” We would only suggest eating this if you’re REALLY hungry and need something quick that you can take with you on the go. Otherwise, go get the BBQ Jackfruit Burger over at Regal Eagle instead, because it’s WAY better. They’re not even in the same league.

Next, we got the Vegetable Korma. This is plant-based chicken with cashews, peas, carrots, onions, and rice.

Veggies on veggies

Thankfully, we LOVED this dish, which was a huge relief after that whole gyro debacle. This one is delicious and has a great coconut curry flavor. The rice was even cooked well and had enough salt, so it tasted good on its own or when combined with the rest of the dish. This is also a big portion size, which makes it a good value at $9.99.

This is filling!

We weren’t a huge fan of the plant-based chicken, but it was diced up pretty small so it wasn’t overpowering. But, if they switched this to all veggies, we think we would order it often when visiting EPCOT!

Eat your veggies!

If you’re a plant-based eater and looking for a dish that has a lot of flavor, this is a great choice. But, if you’re kind of freaked out by fake meat, we’d suggest not grabbing this item.

This does not in fact taste like chicken
