REVIEW: The Plant-Based Sub Could be the BEST Choice at a Disney World Pizza Joint

Disney’s Hollywood Studios is home to several plant-based eats, including the Flying Saucer Impossible Burger at Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater, the Vegan Toasted “Lobster” Roll at Rosie’s All-American Cafe, and even the Blue and Green Milk at the Milk Stand in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

PizzeRizzo in Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Today we’re headed over to the Muppet Courtyard to try a plant-based lunch option at PizzeRizzo! The pizza here doesn’t usually impress us much. But is this spot worth a visit just for the vegan sub? You might be surprised.

Yes, PizzeRizzo — the counter-service joint owned by that crass and loveable Muppet rat, Rizzo. And the place where, in the past, we’ve recommended you order anything BUT the pizza.

Spicy Italian “Sausage” Sub at PizzeRizzo

Following our own advice, we ordered the Spicy Italian “Sausage” Sub, which is priced at $10.49 and comes with your choice of side. We went with a side salad with vegan blue cheese dressing.

Lunch at PizzeRizzo!

The sandwich is made with plant-based “sausage,” and it’s dressed with oven-roasted sweet peppers, onions, and mushrooms with marinara sauce. Our sandwich included a drizzle of Italian salad dressing that had a strong oregano flavor when we tried it on its own, but was well-balanced with the flavorful marinara sauce and other items on the sandwich.

A little bit of kick in this vegan offering at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

We found the plant-based sausage to have a bit of a kick, but it wasn’t overly spicy. The sandwich roll was lightly toasted on the outside, and fresh and soft on the inside. The Spicy Italian “Sausage” Sub was well priced for the portion size.

You can get vegan blue cheese dressing at PizzeRizzo.

Our side salad was…a side salad. The lettuce was fresh, and it was a fine accompaniment to the spice in the sandwich. The vegan blue cheese dressing was adequate, but we’re not sure we would recommend it to people who aren’t strictly vegan. Non plant-based eaters may prefer to ask for a non-vegan dressing option.

Yum!

We would recommend this sandwich to anyone looking for a plant-based or meatless quick-service option at Hollywood Studios, as well as anyone who finds themselves at PizzeRizzo and doesn’t want mediocre pizza. We don’t see many Italian-flavored, quick-service, plant-based options in any Disney Parks, so this lunch was a bit of a novelty for us. And as an added bonus, PizzeRizzo is often easy to get into at the park, even on crowded days.

Now, would we recommend this over other quick-service lunches in this park, like the Ronto Wraps or plant-based Zuchii Wraps at Ronto Roasters? …Probably not. But it’s a good option if you’re looking for more variety in vegan eats! Keep following DFB for more reviews of the newest snacks in Disney World.
