Florida Governor Ron DeSantis continues to fire back at Disney after the company took a delayed but strong stance against the “Don’t Say Gay” bill he just signed into law.

After DeSantis signed the bill into law yesterday, The Walt Disney Company released a statement reading, “Our goal as a company is for this law to be repealed by the legislature or struck down in the courts.”

DeSantis, who previously called the company too “woke,” has now stated, “This state is governed by the interests of the state of Florida. It is not based on the demands of California corporate executives. They do not run this state. They do not control this state. If this was such an affront, why weren’t they speaking up at the outset?”

After news broke that The Walt Disney Company donated money to all sponsors of the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, the company received immense criticism and backlash from its fans and the Disney community.

Disney CEO Bob Chapek sent out multiple emails to Cast Members, only initially acknowledging the situation, and then eventually denouncing the bill and vowing to donate funds to support LGBTQIA+ communities.

Many LGBTQIA+ employees and their allies spoke out and walkouts were held last week. Disney made another statement supporting LGBTQIA+ employees amid the walkouts.
