REVIEW: One Reason You Might SKIP a Near-Perfect EPCOT Restaurant

There are a lot (like a LOT) of great restaurants in EPCOT. It can be super difficult to choose where to eat in a park with such amazing food.

Teppan Edo

This time, we’re going to take a look at a VERY popular EPCOT restaurant. This spot has great food and fun entertainment…but you still might want to skip it. Don’t worry, we’ll explain! We’re taking you through a FULL REVIEW of EPCOT’s Hibachi grill Teppan Edo, and whether you should make a reservation!

Teppan Edo Restaurant is located in EPCOT’s Japan Pavilion and is a table-service Hibachi grill offering. Expect to see your chef cooking at your table (dinner and a show!) and a menu of teppanyaki favorites.

We’ve really enjoyed our experiences at Teppan Edo in the past. It’s got great eats, great service, and the fun chef-at-your-table thing. Still, it’s not the most special meal you can have at Disney World. So, how is Teppan Edo holding up?

Atmosphere

When you’re in the Japan Pavilion, you’ll spot some tall steps leading to a space above Mitsukoshi Department Store. That’s Teppan Edo!

Teppan Edo

The inside of the restaurant is cozy with darker tones and the sound of sizzling when the chefs are cooking.

Teppan Edo

There are several smaller dining rooms, helping with the cozy feel, and there are a few hibachi tables in each room.

Teppan Edo

As is the norm at teppanyaki restaurants, your chef cooks right at your table on a flat-top grill.

Teppan Edo

This restaurant does have shared tables so you’ll likely be seated with other parties as you watch your chef whip up your eats.

Teppan Edo

Keep an eye out for fun surprises while your chef cooks!

Teppan Edo

It’s Mickey!

At your seat, you’ll find QR code menus, a napkin and plate, and chopsticks. Don’t worry though, you can certainly snag a fork if you prefer one!

Teppan Edo

Enough about the atmosphere though, let’s eat!

Eats

Before we dive into our meal, let’s take a look at the menu! Teppan Edo serves up lunch and dinner. You can start your meal with one of the Appetizers or even some Sushi.

The main attractions are of course the Entrees and Combinations! SO many great options to choose from.

If you want a little bit of extra oomph with your meal, you can check out the Entree Add-on Enhancements. They’ve got options like Wagyu and Lobster! Wrap up your meal with a Dessert option.

Kids’ Entrees include Ebi, Tori, and Salmon with several of the hibachi accompaniments.

And, you can snag your choice of beverage to go with your meal. You have options of Non-Alcoholic Beverages, Beer, Sake Selections

So, what did we pick for our meal? We started with one of the cocktail options — the Violet Sake Martini for $12.

Violet Sake Martini

This drink is vodka shaken with purple pear and lime juice.

Violet Sake Martini

We liked this sip! The martini had floral and slightly sweet flavors but you could still taste the vodka. It was a GORGEOUS color and made for a fun, lighter cocktail before a large meal.

Violet Sake Martini

We also prefaced our meal with the Miso Soup, available as an add-on to your entree for a price of $4.

Miso Soup

Teppan Edo’s Miso Soup is a soybean-based soup with wakame, tofu, and green onion.

Miso Soup

Our reporter isn’t the biggest miso soup fan but said this was very good! The dish wasn’t too salty and had perfectly cooked tofu. The meals at Teppan Edo are BIG, so you might not need soup to start. But, if you’re a big miso soup fan and want a lighter start to the meal, it’s a good deal to add the small bowl.

Miso Soup

We also tried out one of the sushi options. We snagged the Volcano Roll for $18!

Volcano Roll

This roll is a grilled California roll topped with shrimp, scallops, and volcano sauce.

Volcano Roll

Brace yourself. We thought this was one of the best things we’ve eaten in Disney World in a LONG. TIME. The Cali roll, shrimp, and scallops are grilled and then topped with the amazing volcano sauce. It was a spicy bite — a little hotter than we expected — but we LOVED IT. The roll was very flavorful and we loved the flavors that came out since the roll was grilled. We’d get this again in a HEARTBEAT.

Volcano Roll

Now, onto everything that’s included with your entree! First up, each meal comes served with a Garden Salad.

Garden Salad

This was a fairly basic, but still tasty salad! It’s made with simple, fresh produce and has a lot of that tasty ginger dressing on top. The flavor profile was full of the gingery kick with a slight sweetness. Even if you skip the soup, you’re in for a great start to your meal.

Garden Salad

For our entree, we went with one of the combinations — the Asakusa for $44.

Asakusa

This combination includes steak and shrimp served with garden salad, udon noodles, vegetables, and steamed white rice.

Asakusa

This was a REAL WINNER. Our food was SO. GOOD. The shrimp was perfectly grilled to be tender and flavorful. The veggies were fresh and had a nice light char to them as well.

Asakusa

We requested our steak medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. Nothing on our plate was overly salty and you’re given yum yum sauce and ginger sauce to use to your taste.

Asakusa

It was a pretty standard hibachi meal, but it was still totally delicious. Even the udon noodles and rice were perfectly cooked.

Asakusa

We also snagged one of the enhancements for our meal with the Mixed Mushrooms, available as an add-on for $14.

Mixed Mushrooms

If you’re a big mushroom fan, you might want to snag these. The mix is three kinds of mushrooms grilled right on the grill and it makes for a large serving. You could probably even share it between two or three people so everyone gets a bit of the earthy flavors.

Mixed Mushrooms

Overall, our entree course was AMAZING. Really, the only complaint is that it’s on the pricy side and is pretty generic. Though it is great hibachi, it’s not going to be that different from what you’d find at your local Benihana.

Asakusa

We wrapped up our meal with the Matcha Tiramisu for $9.

Matcha Tiramisu

This treat was the perfect amount of matcha flavor which can be tricky since it can be overpowering. We also found that it was very creamy and had a nice balanced flavor.

Matcha Tiramisu

Still, we think this might be a more skippable dessert. There are awesome desserts out and about in EPCOT that you might want to snag later, but if you love matcha, you could go for this. The presentation was certainly unique and well done!

Matcha Tiramisu

Whew, now that we are SO full, let’s talk about whether YOU should try Teppan Edo.

Nosh or Not

You SHOULD go to Teppan Edo if…

  • You love Asian food and teppanyaki restaurants. This spot is a pretty simple teppanyaki concept but it’s done VERY well.
  • You want dinner and a show! Teppan Edo’s chefs do a great job of entertaining and serving up a perfect meal.
  • You want a healthier meal. Sometimes it can feel limiting when you’re looking for healthy options in Disney World, but Teppan Edo has several options that land in a healthier place.

You should SKIP Teppan Edo if…

  • You’re on a budget. The pricing here is on par with other Disney table service restaurants, but a $44 entree is certainly something you could skip if you’re trying to save.
  • You have limited time. Teppan Edo is a lengthy meal and if you have a lot to see on your EPCOT day, you might want to opt for a quick service meal instead.
  • You’re looking for something special. Teppan Edo is DELICIOUS, but you might be able to get good hibachi in your hometown. If you want something more unique in EPCOT, check out Space 220 or Spice Road Table.

Overall

Overall, we had a TOP NOTCH meal at Teppan Edo. The service was amazing, especially our interactive and awesome chef. The food was delicious the portions were HUGE. Basically, we’ve continued our streak of LOVING Teppan Edo.

Still, even with it being so good, it might not be the best choice for you on your EPCOT day. Disney World has a lot of unique table service restaurants and if you’re limited by time or money on the number of table service meals you can go to during your trip, you might want to try something a little more special. The hibachi in your hometown might have similar vibes!

You’re also seated with strangers which is something to consider. Some people like that, others don’t! It also is on the pricy side without the Disney Dining Plan. So take a look at those prices and make sure it fits your budget in advance.

Still, it’s fun, delicious, and a spectacle in a VERY good way. We’d certainly pay another visit to Teppan Edo.
